Queen’s Gambit Kathmandu – A Global Celebration of Women in Chess

We are honored and excited to be one of the proud hosts of the Women’s Chess Marathon here in Nepal this August. This inspiring global initiative, led by the FIDE Commission for Women’s Chess (WOM), is devoted to empowering women and girls through the game of chess.

With flagship events taking place across the world—in Africa, the Americas, Asia & Oceania, and Europe—our event in Nepal is part of a powerful movement to inspire the next generation of women chess players. Alongside events in South Africa, Zambia, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Australia, Portugal, and Italy, we are thrilled to contribute to this growing global network of inclusion and opportunity.

We warmly invite all chess enthusiasts, individuals, schools, and organizations in Nepal to join us this August. Whether through tournaments, lectures, simuls, or social gatherings, your participation helps us build a more inclusive chess community where women and girls can find their voice, confidence, and passion.

Our Queen’s Gambit Kathmandu event is specifically made for unrated women and girls, offering a friendly environment where they may play fast chess, learn, and make new friends. It’s more than simply a competition; it’s a celebration of visibility, opportunity, and inclusivity that uses chess to assist many women and girls gain confidence.

Prizes: Across general and age categories
Open to: Individuals and schools
Venue: Thapathali, Kathmandu
Start Time: 10:30 AM sharp

The format will be rapid games with prizes across general and age categories, open to both individuals and schools. We are proud and grateful to be part of this worldwide movement promoting gender equity in chess, and we hope to inspire the next generation of female chess players here in Nepal.
